Magazine Progress

This is the original image that I will use for my magaizne cover. I have chosen this because Ben is looking straight into the camera which communicates with and involves the audience and this is a feature I picked up on during my magazine research. It also represents the film well as he plays the villian and gives the audience a clear signal of the hoody-horror genre that our movie fits into. In this picture, Ben is holding the knife which is again a symbol of what is to come from the film, however for my shot, I would like to focus just on his face and use a close up from this photo.

The colours of this image also work well; the black on his leather jacket is a key convention of horror movies and represents mystery and darkness. The white background adds a sense of innocence however in this case this is more representative of the actor because the article is an interview with him - this contrasts the two characters.

At first, I cut down the image to the size an proportions that I wanted and I then had to remove the background. As this could not be done by setting it as a transparent colour, I needed to cut the image out and then place it on a solid white background. I did this by using photoshop expert and the magic wand tool to get rid of most of the back ground and then to neaten the edges I used the eraser tool.

Once I had done this, I was then able to place the image onto my magazine front cover. My cover is now starting to take shape. I have chosen a simple tonal colour scheme of black and red which I think keeps my cover looking neat even though I have used various fonts to make sections of text stand out, and also gives it a more professional aesthetic.
